The teaching of the course „The History of Jews. The Holocaust” in schools will contribute to a better knowledge and understanding of the history, culture and traditions of the Romanian Jews and to preserving the Holocaust memory, thus strengthening a resilient democracy, in full accordance with human rights and fundamental freedoms, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu declared on Tuesday at the ceremony organized at the Victoria Palace of Government on the occasion of the national launch of this new mandatory high-school course.

„The Holocaust, this unprecedented attempt to exterminate the Jewish population in Europe, went beyond geographical borders and affected all segments of society. Romania was not spared from the tragic effects of the links between Nazism and Romanian fascism, witnessing both the collapse of values and the disintegration of institutions. That is precisely why we have the moral duty to support and promote education on Jewish history and the Holocaust,” Ciolacu said at the event organized by the government in collaboration with the Federation of Jewish Communities of Romania – The Mosaic Cult.
He emphasized that the introduction, by Law No. 276, of the discipline „The History of Jews. The Holocaust” in the framework plans of high school and vocational education as part of the common curricular core beginning with the 2023 – 2024 school year, unequivocally reflects the cross-party and civic political will to promote education about the Holocaust, but also to strengthen the resilience of the youth and the society as a whole against the dangers represented by anti-Semitism, xenophobia, discrimination and hate speech.

Marcel Ciolacu also emphasized the importance of educating young people in the spirit of patriotism and of „not keeping the dark parts of history or those that generated them under wraps”, adding that Romania’s archives for research on the Holocaust are gradually opening, and the next steps that must be taken include speeding up the digitization of these resources.

„Also, we want the National Museum of the History of the Romanian Jewry and the Holocaust to open as soon as possible,” the prime minister mentioned.

Marcel Ciolacu highlighted the particularly important role of art in educating the young generation and gave as an example the State Jewish Theater, the first professional Jewish theater in the world, which boasts an uninterrupted activity of 147 years, and which constantly enriched the Romanian cultural landscape.

The prime minister congratulated the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania for its tireless work aimed at restoring and promoting the architectural, cultural and human heritage of this community in Romania.

Also, he welcomed the presence at the event of Israel Tanner, president of the Association of Romanian Jews, Victims of the Holocaust.

Ministrul sârb al apărării, Miloš Vučević, a respins drept neadevărate informațiile transmise de Pristina și anumite medii de informare din străinătate despre mișcările de trupe ale Armatei Serbiei pe teritoriul Serbiei, după conflictul armat de la Banjska dintre un grup de sârbi kosovari și Poliția Kosovo, în care și-au pierdut viața trei sârbi și un polițist kosovar, notează Rador Radio România.

„Este o campanie continuă împotriva Armatei Serbiei, a numărului și activităților militarilor, mișcării și desfășurării unităților Armatei Serbiei pe teritoriul țării noastre. Aceste informații le considerăm complet inadecvate și iresponsabile și le respingem drept inexacte, respectiv absolut neadevărate” – a declarat Vučević la conferința de presă organizată împreună cu șeful de stat Major al Armatei Serbiei, general Milan Mojsilović.

Vučević a reiterat că dacă va primi ordin de la președintele Serbiei, Aleksandar Vučić, în calitate de comandant suprem, Armata Serbiei va intra pe teritoriul Kosovo, ca teritoriu al Serbiei și își va executa mandatul „eficient, profesional și cu succes”, dar „nu înainte de a anunța KFOR”. „Nu vom acționa pe ascuns. Vom respecta normele dreptului internațional” – a declarat Vučević, adăugând că până acum Serbia nu a trebuit să ia o astfel de hotărâre și va face tot ceea ce depinde de ea pentru a nu se ajunge la un astfel de scenariu.

„Acesta este motivul pentru care este importantă continuarea dialogului politic, respectarea Rezoluției 1244 a Consiliului de Securitate ONU, aplicarea acordului de la Kumanovo și implementarea tuturor acordurilor convenite până acum în dialogul Belgrad-Pristina. Astfel poate fi evitat orice posibil conflict care nu este în interesul național al Serbiei” – a declarat Vučević, adăugând că Armata Serbiei colaborează în permanență cu KFOR. „Una sunt diferențele politice pe care le avem cu SUA, Marea Britanie, Italia, Germania și Franța și cu totul altceva este colaborarea pe teren cu KFOR” – a precizat Vučević, adăugând că „misiunea KFOR are un rol important, mai ales în zonele în care trăiesc sârbii”.

Potrivit lui Vučević, nici sârbii din Kosovo nu au nimic împotriva consolidării prezenței KFOR. Vučević a accentuat că între KFOR și Armata Serbiei există o bună și continuă colaborare „de mulți ani”. Vučević a răspuns și la acuzațiile premierului Kosovo, Albin Kurti, referitoare la „armele și echipamentele militare produse în Serbia” confiscate după conflictul din Banjska. Vučević a spus că astfel de arme și echipamente se găsesc pe tot teritoriul fostei Iugoslavii și este o „mare prostie” să afirmi că statul Serbia, Ministerul sârb al apărării și Armata Serbiei au participat „la ceva ce unii numesc act terorist”. „Terorism este epurarea etnică a sârbilor din Kosovo. Acte de terorism sunt arestările zilnice, hărțuirile, perchezițiile în spitale, școli, grădinițe sau să nu permiți EULEX să participe la operațiuni pentru care are mandat” – a declarat ministrul sârb al apărării.
